European Cinema of the 1920s and the Hollywood Studio System




A. Entrance card

1. Chapter 4 readers: Discuss in as much detail as you can the films and approaches of one of the directors explored in the chapter from one of the European film industries.

2. Chapter 5 readers: Explain what you remember about the Hollywood studio system discussed in the chapter.

B. Divide up in groups and share what you learned from your chapter. Then get back together with the class and teach your chapter to students who haven't read it.

C. European Cinema in the 1920s and The Hollywood Studio System lecture and discussion.

D. Introduction to and clips from films representing Soviet montage, German Expressionism, French Dadaism, and Spanish surrealism.

E. Discuss and peer review Paper I ideas. 



Homework:

Complete Paper I for Tuesday, September 10. 

Divide into two groups. 

Group I will read chapter 6, American Cinema in the 1930s, and 

Group II will read chapter 7, European Cinema in the 1930s.
